Hello lovers of salt and sea, lovers of snow and ice and lovers in between,

How are you? We are both well! We are currently in Melbourne, Australia. We are busy, busy, busy, writing, writing, writing. It’s very exciting to be back writing!  It’s a long way from airports, planes, vans and buses. It’s very exciting and very refreshing. Sometimes (usually when we are stuck at the US/Canadian border or at an airport at 5am) I wonder what I am doing. Writing makes me remember why we do this! We are very lucky.

We head back to the USA in March to play the AWESOME and exciting mom + pop / frenchkiss SXSW showcase on March 19th with the likes of Les Savy Fav, Freelance Whales and more! AUSTIN, TEXAS. BBQ. OH YEAH.

We then head out and play a handful of our own east coast US shows before we head to Germany for the first time! We are really excited to let you all know that our record is coming out on Grand Hotel van Cleef on March 19. Neither Damon or I have been to Germany. We told you that we would come see you. We keep our promises. There are multiple visits to Germany in the coming months and lots of shows and festivals so be sure to check our dates here. Tickets for all of these shows are on sale now.

Then of course there is our US tour with the fabulous and extremely talented Kaki King. When I first met Kaki I told her a story that Damon had told me about a music festival, a shower cubicle, a soap holder and someones inability to use the toilet correctly. I am clearly avoiding detail. Ask Kaki. Point is, we are very excited to tour with her! We are going all over the place, be sure to have a look. Tickets on sale now!

Oh! Don’t forget we have wonderful new merch items in our merch store. ALL designed by Celeste Potter. We love her artwork so much. We also love her. Check out our online store and have your mind blown.

Finally, Australians! We are doing a handful of shows next week in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney with UK band, The Big Pink. You can get tickets here. Come along and say hi! Oh and Brisbane, we PROMISE we will get to you. And when we do, look out. We are very much looking forward to playing some shows in Australia. It’s been a year!

ALSO Australians from March 19 you will be able to buy a newly released by Shock Records version of Rearrange Beds WITH the new ‘Beds Rearranged’ EP – the remix EP we have been working so hard on. Actually, we didn’t work much harder than “OH MAN! That is awesome!”. People such as Gerard Smith from TV on the Radio, Bodega Girls, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, RAC Collective and Tally Hall worked really hard on remixes of Company, Listen, Shoes Watch, Camp Out and Horizons. If you live in the USA you will be able to buy Beds Rearranged at our shows and digitally soon! People who live elsewhere, we are working on it!

I have to go now and watch the end of Jaws. I am watching it for the 148th time. I am also wearing a Jaws t-shirt and I just found a toy shark in my freezer. I don’t know where it came from. Strange. Oh man, you wouldn’t believe it, they are going to need a bigger boat.

Sail safe!

It’s been way too long friends but we have been busy working hard trying to impress Tegan and Sara on our tour of Canada together. Thank you to everyone who has come to the shows early and thanks for being amazing audiences. We really appreciate you! Even though we have toured with the lovely and oh so generous T&S before there is ALWAYS the fear that their audience will not like us. Pretty much like if we or ANY band toured with AC/DC. It’s rough. BUT every audience we have encountered has been so amazing. So! THANKS!!!

In other news, as you may have noticed we are heading out on tour with our friend Kaki King in April and May in the USA. We are looking forward to this for many reasons. I will list them for the sake of simplicity:
1) Kaki
2) Spring in the USA
3) Playing on the West Coast
4) Playing on the East Coast
5) Playing between the coasts
6) There are a whole lot more reasons but I can’t really remember them now.

Check tour dates here.

I am really tired. And sore! I spent today snow rafting with T&S and crew. I was scared. Despite Sara Quin’s efforts to have you believe I am an ex-pro surfer, this is not true. I get scared easily. I don’t like roller coasters. I will never bungee jump. I will never sky dive even if Keanu Reeves rang me and said he would re-enact a sky diving scene from Point Break with me (….okay maybe then I would CONSIDER it but only if he agreed that I was Bodhi). So today was scary but completely awesome. I am however feeling a little stiff both physically and mentally.

Also be sure to head over to our merch store. We have some fantastic new t-shirts, tote bags and hoodies up. I think they are all awesome and if I didn’t play in An Horse I would wear/use all of them. To be honest, I wear the KC/DC hoodie at home. It feels good.

We have a handful more shows with Tegan and Sara then Damon and I are bunkering down to finish writing a new record.  Don’t worry we will keep you in the loop. Just make sure you check back in, as we’ll have many exciting announcements in the coming months!

After playing many many shows with T&S over the past couple of years our faithful tour manager Che captures the very first photo of An Horse & Tegan and Sara together. Yay!

I think, really, the Jolly Roger is the appropriate course of action.

Heya all. Just wanted to say hi.

Kate and I have been off the road now for about 6 weeks. It seems like longer. We’ve been reconnecting with family and loved ones which is nice. And watching new and old Coen Brothers films. I’m in Melbourne right now, and Kate in Montreal. I’m coming into Summer and her into Winter. Here are 2 very different pictures of what we see when we wake up each morning…

What a crazy year. We played over 120 shows this year in over 5 different countries. This year was full of amazing highs and lows. We got to tour with some of our all-time favourite bands like Tegan and Sara, Silversun Pickups, Telekinesis and the Appleseed Cast. We had our record released in Australia and the US, got to play Letterman and SXSW, as well as enjoy incredible support from all of you who came and saw us play night after night and praise and encourage us to keep making music. For that we are so grateful and feel blessed. To have you believe in us is so wonderful. Really.

So lots has been happening behind the scenes these past few weeks. Our debut album Rearrange Beds is finally seeing an official release in Canada. We’ve spent quite a bit of time in Canada this year and feel a warm connection to our Canadian fans. We can’t wait for our album to be released there on December 21 and to come back and tour during January 2010 with Tegan and Sara.

We’ve also been working on a new EP of remixes. We’ve asked some of our favourite artists to remix some songs from Rearrange Beds. The response has been awesome and we are sifting through some remix versions as we speak.

Kate has also been sending me lots of demos of new songs that I’m getting really excited about. After the January tour we are going to take a little time out in Australia to write and arrange songs for album number two.

Speaking of Australia thanks so much you guys for your patience. We receive a lot of messages asking when we’ll be playing at home again. We’re working on it I promise and look forward to playing for you all again.

Look after each other.

You’re gonna need a bigger boat…

November 17th, 2009

Hello

I am sorry we haven’t spoken in awhile. Last week I barely got out of bed. It wasn’t swine but goddamn it was not fun. And before last week, well Damon and I were busy driving around North America playing shows with those lovely Silversun Pickups and Cage The Elephant folk. Thanks if you came to any of our shows over the last 2 months. We always appreciate it. Much like I appreciate chocolate and Damon appreciates hotels clearly labeling pillows as hard, soft or medium. It’s the small things you know?

So I thought I would touch base and let you know a few things. First of all a bird dropped some bread in the Large Hadron Collider and shut it down again. Weird huh? Also there has been a giant shark lurking off the coast of Queensland where I have spent most of my life. Look at this.

SO AWESOME!!!! If I was there I would cover myself in cow blood and swim out in the hope of seeing it up close. Also, I have a loose agreement with my sister that a shark attack would be helpful to her socially. She urges me to cover myself in cows blood often and swim near sharks because she is adamant it would provide her with a fabulous story to share at dinner parties. She is my little sister, she has a weird hold over me. She says cover yourself in cow blood and swim with sharks, I say sure sister.

BUT perhaps more important than any of the above is the below.

CANADA!!! Land of snow and flu shots (for permanent residents ONLY), on the 29th of December 2009 our debut record Rearrange Beds will be available through the amazing folk at Maple Music Recordings! In stores and digitally. AT LAST!!! We promised it would be out this year. We just made it. And, to be honest I am not sure I promised anyone anything (apart from promising my sister that I would cover myself in cow blood etc). So don’t buy your friend/sister/lover a Christmas present. Buy them a post-Christmas present and make it Rearrange Beds. We all know you could have stolen it many times by now and probably have. Buying it physically is a) cooler, b) more helpful, c) it looks way hotter than your writing on a cd-r. What good timing Canada because in January we are being taken on tour with our dearest friends in the world – Tegan and Sara. We love Tegan and Sara so much and think that their new record is so amazing. In fact we think it is so amazing I deleted my whole itunes library and imported Sainthood in 124 times. Now I only listen to it. The January tour will be so much fun for us. And for you! You can laugh at the Australian’s being forced through the snow and ice. That’s what Tegan and Sara are planning on doing. I can feel it. Check our tour dates here.

We will touch base soon. In the meantime stay warm or stay cool. Wherever you are remember to drink plenty of water and that “coughs and sneezes spread diseases, catch your germs in your handkerchief”. Hmmm this is a pretty old saying and I am sure handkerchiefs have been proven to be filthy cease pools of germs.

Look after each other.
